Labor
$99.99/$139.99 is a flat rate charge. That covers all diagnostics and labor. Parts would cost extra and we will call you with pricing if needed. If the repair is a software problem then most likely you will not need to pay anything other then this.
Hard drive - The hard drive is an internal drive. We can either install it in the system, you can purchase an external case and we can install it in that to make it external USB, or you can just take the drive and if you ever needs files that were backed up, just bring the drive and computer back and we will copy off any files you need for free.
Are there any specific files you need backed up or do you just want everything?
Data Backup Options - Pros and Cons
Hard Drive - If we make an exact image of your computer before we work on it, then in the future the computer can be restored to exactly how it is today. You can access documents, pictures, music and other data files from the drive if you have us put it in an external enclosure. If something happens and you need your computer restored from the exact image, all your programs will be there and everything will be exactly as it was the day the backup was done. Turn around will be faster then CD/DVD backup, but the hard dirve will have to be installed in your computer if there is room or installed in an external USB or Firewire enclosure for about $45 more.
DVDs/CDs - If you get the backup to DVDs, your programs will not be backed up. Even if the program files are copied to the DVDs you will most likely not be able to use them if you just copy them back to the computer. You will have to reinstall any programs that you need if your computer is restored by us. Programs can not be backed up because when they are installed from the original discs there are settings that are written to the current installation of windows that would not be written if you simply copy the program back from a DVD backup. Some programs will restore the settings if they are not found, but in most cases the program would run but have a lot of problems. The only reason you would want to restore a program from a DVD backup is if you do not have the original discs to install it again. However, if the program requires a key and you have lost the key as well as the disc it probably will not work because keys are almost always stored in the registry and would not be there after reinstalling windows. We will also not copy the program from the DVD and restore it to the computer if you can not find the installation media because of copyright issues and other potential problems that can result from an improperly installed program. The files you will be able to use from the DVD backup would be music, documents, pictures, videos, emails, address books, favorites and data files from programs like quicken. To use the data files from a program you will have to first reinstall the program and then use the "import", "restore backup" or "open" function. Turn around may take longer then the hard drive backup depending on how many CDs/DVDs it will take to back up everything.
Open the computer or system information and check the amount of memory
If it is below 512MB, recommend at least 512MB and higher if possible
- 256MB is the minimum I would recommend for windows XP
- adding over 256MB will usually help out a lot with running multiple programs and overall system speed and responsiveness
- the more memory you add, the more programs you can run at the same time without a speed problem
- adding more memory is the easiest and cheapest way to dramatically speed up your computer
| Always enter the serial number from the unit, not from the receipt or customer information sheet. For TAP: If the serial number is faded and can not be read, then you must power up the unit and check the BIOS or manufacturer system information utility within windows to get the serial number and be sure to put that in the notes. If there is no way to get the serial nuber then we can not check the unit in under TAP and the customer will need to pay for the repair. If they are checking it in with a flat rate and there is no serial number then just put there phone number as the serial number. For small items that TAP was sold on and there is no serial number on the item, put the serial number as SKU.Phone number, ex. 314665.3145551212.
